The Sony FX-1 consumer camera

These images were shot by  David Arendt and Francoise Bour in Luxembourg using an FX-1 from Sony. If you wish to link to this page, that is fine, but you may not copy these images for placement on your own pages. You may not link directly to the images.

These files are raw HDV files in m2t format. Some NLE systems will allow you to drop m2t files directly on the timeline; others won't. Cineform has a demo/trial of their famous intermediary tools for Sony Vegas and Adobe Premiere. Lumiere has a demo for their intermediary for Final Cut Pro.
Download these files, and use the Cineform or Lumiere tool to convert them so that you'll be able to render/edit/experiment with these files. You might be able to convert them to an editable format using Huffyuv as well.
Keep in mind, unless you are viewing this footage on a 1900 x 1200 monitor, you aren't seeing the full value of the information and your system may be creating artifacts in the scaling of the images.

In this floating mallard shot, notice the shift in the greens isn't smeary at all? Pay close attention to the shadow in the water as opposed to the duck itself. Watch for aliasing (or a lack of aliasing) in the shadow's sharp edge. (47MB)

Look at the mosquito on the leaf, notice the change in irridescence as the light shifts. Look closely for macroblocking in the straight lines as the light shifts.  (I can't see any on a Premiere Luma monitor, but perhaps someone else can)   (83MB)

The detail in the ruffling feathers here is what you want to pay attention to if you're looking for gross detail. Try using a pan/crop or zoom tool to check out the resolution of the feathers at double the resolution.  (67MB)

Check out the DOF (Depth of field) and how shallow it can be with this camera. If there will be problems with the footage, you'll see it in the water and the similar colored greenery where the water and the greenery coincide. (51MB)
